🙏 Gratitude Glues Couples Together
The tiny 'thank you' that predicts how your relationship feels tomorrow.
Gratitude Is Relationship Glue
Psychologist Sara Algoe and colleagues tracked more than 65 couples day by day and found something simple: on days one partner felt genuinely appreciated for something — planning a dinner, covering bedtime, remembering the coffee order — both partners reported feeling closer, and that boost carried into the next day.
The size of the favor barely mattered. What mattered was whether it was met with authentic gratitude rather than a sense of "now I owe them" — appreciation, the researchers found, works completely differently than obligation.
Thank your person for something specific and small tonight — not "thanks for everything," but "thanks for grabbing my coffee order right, that actually made my morning." Specific beats grand almost every time.
