💬 The Story

One Tree Doesn't Sound Like Much — Until It's 50 Million

Wangari Maathai founded Kenya's Green Belt Movement in 1977, encouraging ordinary citizens — mostly women — to plant trees to fight deforestation, restore soil, and create income. In 2004, she became the first African woman to win the Nobel Peace Prize. The movement she started has since grown to more than 50 million trees planted.

She never framed her own contribution as heroic — just as one small, repeatable act that made sense to keep doing. It's a useful reminder that most large-scale change was never one big gesture; it was one small, ordinary thing, done by enough people, often enough.

👉 Try This Today

Pick your own version of "planting a tree" — one small, repeatable action tied to something you care about — and do it today, without waiting until you can do something bigger.
